Freedom, Ecstasy, and Awakening: A Deep Dive into Tantric Meditation

Freedom, Ecstasy, and AwakeningTeleseries was held Tuesdays, November 17, 24, and December 1, 2015

It’s all about finding your own doorways into the living Shakti—the power that liberates us from confusion, and lets us experience joy even in the midst of pain. We will dive deep into meditation practices. As we explore these practices and teachings together, they create a vortex of insight and realization. This powerfully amplifies everyone’s experience. The transmission coming through these classes can be, literally, transformative.

If you have not taken previous Vijnana Bhairava classes with Sally or just need to refresh your memory, click here a transcript of the introductory class that explains the history and approach we’ll be following.

Homework

Preparing Your Seat

  1. The most important thing you can do to prepare is to make yourself a comfortable seat.
  2. If you are going to sit on the floor, make sure that you have a cushion or blankets to lift your butt 3-5 inches above your knees.
  3. If you sit on a chair, its better that it be a straight chair rather than a recliner. Use a cushion under your buttocks for support, and also make sure that you have a pillow or pillows that you can place in the small of your back to keep your spine straight.
  4. If its hard for your back muscles to support you upright without a backrest, that’s fine; for the purposes of this class we will not require full-court press yogic asana.
  5. What is crucial is that the back be erect, though not rigid. So if you do use a backrest, or if you decide to support yourself by leaning against a wall, make sure that you have the props you need to keep your spine straight.

Mantras

Opening Invocation

Om Om Om
Om namah shivaya gurave
Sat chit ananda murtaye
Nisprapanchaya shantaya
Niralambhaya tejase
Salutations to the eternal teacher
Who exists within us as pure being,
pure awareness, pure joy
Who is peaceful, luminous, without form
Who is never not supporting us.

Prayer for the Welfare of All Beings

May all beings have happiness and the causes of happiness
May all beings be free of suffering and the causes of suffering
May they know the sacred joy that arises in the space beyond suffering.
May they rest in equanimity that knows no grasping or hatred.
May they experience the equality of all beings.
May my practice be of benefit to all.

(adapted from a Tibetan prayer, translation by Padma Publishing)
